Hobbies

Ballet (2003 - 2016) I was captain of a successful regional and national competitive ballet team. During this time, I spent many hours training and competing. I learnt how to communicate with my team and acted as a bridge between them and the coaches, which enabled me to learn how to interact with different age groups. Aided by my team's honest feedback and my increasing ability to recognise, accept and reflect on my mistakes, I created an environment in which the team felt comfortable to open up so that issues could be tackled promptly. Furthermore, dancing competitively whilst keeping up with academics improved my organisation and time-management skills greatly. Through perseverance and determination my team and I, amongst many other successful competitions, were chosen to represent Italy for the international dance competition "Premio Ariston Proballet" in 2014 and won first place for contemporary dance in the group category, under the 'juniors' age group. I have now stopped competing, but I keep with me all the valuable skills gained throughout the years. Volunteering As a volunteer in Colombia, I learned the rewards of giving back to others. For 2 weeks I was part of a team, travelling in Bogota and organising activities to rekindle the community. I learnt how to convey a balance between hope and realism, and the importance of compassion. I understood that empathy comes easiest when there is an appreciation of cultures and opinions different to your own. As leader of children's' activities, I appreciated the honor and rewards of being a teacher.
